Howdy 👋🏽 I’m a full stack web developer with what might be described as an eclectic background. I am driven by opportunities to learn by doing and I live for the moments when a concept makes the sudden switch from baffling to comprehensible.
I was fortunate to be able to attend film school at USC, where I was surrounded by passionate and create individuals who were brave enough to jump into a terrifyingly competitive industry. In the end I didn’t share there love for the movie business but I remain grateful for the opportunity to indulge my creative instincts while learning the fine art of collaborating with big personalities.
After school I returned to my native Bay Area and entered the SF tech workforce as a sales development rep. I’ve never been the “salesey” type but was surprisingly successful in the role. It was a great chance to get out of my comfort zone and gain exposure to a variety of business challenges and communication styles in a fast paced and competitive environment.
Since then, I’ve been making the gradual transition into what has proven to be my most sustained professional passion, software development. The seed was planted early, when at around 13 I received a cd with a copy of a program called GameMaker and began tinkering with its proprietary GML language.
Today I work at a small enterprise SaaS start up where I’m excited each day to wake up to a fresh set of programming challenges and learning opportunities. I focus on developing new capabilities for our backend API, as well as UI features in our admin and end user web/desktop apps. I currently specialize in Rails, Ember, Backbone, and PostgreSQL but I’m interested in learning Go as well as finding more opportunities to work on ML projects.
I'm based out of Alameda, CA, where I live with my amazing wife and three (yes, three) cats. In my spare time I enjoy creating pen and ink illustrations, watching documentaries with a good whiskey in hand, and traveling internationally as much as possible.
